Step Up

Step Up creates opportunities for young people to run their own projects. This includes our Youth Arts Leadership Schemes, the Advanced version of which empowers young people to produce a season of double-bills at The Cockpit Theatre, ranging from photography, drama-dance fusion, visual arts, and comedy showcases.

We also run event management training, support young people who want to set up their own arts companies and regularly host work experience placements.

When I heard about the youth arts leadership I thought it was a great opportunity. It has given me confidence in working and sharing my skills with others similar to myself. It has been a struggle but the team of actors I have been working with and myself have got there in the end.

This wasn't training for me, but really a journey where I found myself again. Along the years I found that my passion for dance began to die as it seemed unrealistic, but I have discovered it can be incorporated into my future career. It has allowed me to realise my potential and how unlimited it is. The scheme has given me tools to have a positive impact on people and now I have increased self belief and look forward to challenges. For this I am forever grateful.
